Blessed are the Poor in Spirit! The Catechism states that the
"precept from detachment from riches is obligatory for entrance
into the Kingdom of Heaven" CCC
2544. This must be so that we may prefer Jesus to "everything
and everyone." This is the key to happiness: freedom from
both the immoderate attachment to material things and from the
inordinate desires within. When we are free from such attachments,
we will be happy to prefer Jesus to "everything and everyone."
Those who have achieved this level of purity will then be truly
free to use their gifts, whether materially or spiritually, in
the service of our Lord's Kingdom. Blessed are the Poor in Spirit,
for there is the Kingdom of God!
