Jackson Catholic Schools Receives Generous Gift From Former Teacher

Donna Ambs was one of the founding group of teachers at Jackson Lumen Christi High school in 1968. As a business teacher, she gifted students and staff alike with her high standards for students, tempered by a great sense of humor, until her retirement in 1997. Lumen Christi announced May 6 that Donna’s dedication to the mission of Lumen Christi and Jackson Catholic Schools will continue through her generous donation of $1.1 million.

According to a press release from Jackson Catholic Schools, Donna believed the role of teacher was one of the noblest and most relevant professions in the world. A substantial portion of her gift will be used to establish an endowed fund to attract and retain teachers for the four Jackson Catholic Schools. Donna graduated from St. Mary Star of the Sea, Jackson Community College and Michigan State University before becoming a lifetime educator for Jackson Catholic Schools.
