William Schelli, president of the Joliet chapter of the Knights of Columbus, presented Bishop Ronald Hicks with the Bishop’s Burse check in mid February at the Blanchette Catholic Center in Crest Hill. The Knights raise money annually for the Bishop’s Burse donation to be used by the bishop for whatever he discerns to be the greatest need within the diocese.

Bishop Hicks was also presented with the Victor Cardosi Award, a separate honor in special recognition of outstanding commitment to the Church, community, and the Knights of Columbus. Schelli noted that he and Bishop Hicks are only a year apart in age and see the role of men in the Church in a similar way.

Of his meeting with the bishop, Schelli said, "Bishop Hicks is excited to be a brother Knight and told me he looks forward to being an active participant in our endeavors. Our mission is to get men back to Mass, and when the men go, the family follows.”
