On Oct. 8, 2019, Pope Francis appointed the Rev. Austin A. Vetter of the Diocese of Bismarck, North Dakota, as the bishop-elect of the Diocese of Helena. Bishop Vetter was ordained Nov. 20, 2019, in the Cathedral of St. Helena.

Bishop Vetter was born in Linton, North Dakota, in 1967. He attended North Dakota State University and pursued seminary studies at Cardinal Muench Seminary in Fargo, North Dakota, and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. He was ordained a priest in 1993.
